Old Naladian Saliya has been "Intoxicated"

A final year medical student of Kursk The University of Russia, a young vocalist Saliya Uduwella's new song is called 'Intoxicate me' has released on YouTube last week.

About more than 11 songs he had sung since childhood like 'Mayam Kathawee', 'Pem Sith Yaye', 'Hitha Poodinneth, Thathawage, Washpa Adare'. When he was an old boy of Nalanda College, attached to the Archery team of the school and leader of the debate team. This is the discussion that we made with him a reference to the new song.

● After a long time of silence, why did you think to create a new song?

I thought of doing something different in Sri Lankan music industry. Every time when I check social media I only see sorrow songs are trending which are known as' Mal Sindu'. It is so disappointing to see that most of the Sri Lankan artists are following this trend. Almost all the melodies of these songs are the same and the lyrics are lame. This is the reason why Sri Lankan artists are not making it into the international chart shows like billboards. Therefore I thought of doing something which can attract an international audience. I think Sri Lankan songs are not popular internationally because our artists are not even trying to reach an international audience. I know it is not easy as we think but we have to keep trying and compete with the other international artists without giving up. My aim is to make Sri Lanka proud someday so I thought of taking my first step. That is how "Intoxicate Me ' was born.

Why did you make an English song this time?

I love Sinhala language and old Sri Lankan music more than anything. But I thought of doing this in English because I was targeting a foreign audience too. We, Sri Lankans, used to think that only US Artists are in the international music business but if we look carefully most of these Major Artists are from different countries. But not many Sri Lankan artists are trying to reach that international audience as the competition is very high. In my opinion, we have to keep trying even if we fail multiple times. Someday someone from Sri Lanka will reach the billboards if we continue this trend. I'm not saying it has to be me. My wish is to see some Sri Lankans achieving that goal. I wish good luck to all the artists who are trying their best at the moment.

● What is Implicit to the audience utilizing the new song?

Well, This is an energetic love song. I always try to promote positive thinking from my music. I hope this song will help someone who is having a bad day to change his mood. As a medical student, I strongly believe that music therapy can reduce stress, negative thoughts & pain. You asked me why I was silent?. I have been experimenting with music and '' Intoxicate Me '' is an outcome of them. Leslie Fish produced the music of this song according to my concept. He is from Zimbabwe and he has been producing music for US Artists. This is a Hip Hop / R&B song. I hope this song will attract hip-hop & R&B music lovers around the world.  Most of the Sri Lankan musicians were telling me that releasing an English hip hop song is not a good idea even though you are good at it. Yes maybe but someone has to try it without thinking about the profit, otherwise we Sri Lankans will never reach the international Audience.

● Why did you call attention to make a new song in the pandemic situation that the country is fallen?

I think people need some motivation to overcome this situation. So we should promote songs with positive energy. There is a possibility of getting psychiatric disorders during this pandemic as people are so much worried about a lot of things. So it is our duty to entertain them.

● Do you believe the song will hit along with songs eagers?

Yes, I think I have done something different. The catchy melody of this song is the key. I hope hip hop / R&B fans will like this concept. I like people who think out of the box. This song is for them. The quality of the audience is more important than the quantity. In the 70s 80s 90s & early 2000 Sri Lankan music trends were awesome. I hope these upcoming artists can change the current situation of the Sri Lankan music industry. I wish everyone Good luck. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to share my ideas with everyone.
